The Politics of Art Book Fairs: Can we decolonize the space of independent publishing? Art book fairs today are not only a venue for representing a separate, prior publishing scene, they are also a central forum for constituting and nurturing a community around publishing as artistic practice. A global phenomenon, these communities take the form of agile, adaptable, and wide-ranging networks.
This round table gathers some of the most interesting actors in the field in order to have a vibrant dialogue. How are space and narratives created, and who is taking a risk? Core themes to be discussed are: who is selected as exhibitor and who isn´t, gift economies, and the implicit and explicit politics of Art Book Fairs.

Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual art book fair, FOCAL POINT, returns for its third edition with a new range of printed matter and presentations by independent and established publishers. The platform, usually host to interdisciplinary art publications and independent and alternative practices has expanded its reach to include titles on art history, theory, and criticism, many of which have been sourced through academic presses.

برنامه‌ریزی ما برای برگزاری دومین دوره‌ی «بازار کتاب هنری» برای تیرماه سال 1399 بود؛ سالی که با همه‌گیری جهانی یک بیماری روبه‌رو شدیم، و در نتیجه همه‌ی فعالیت‌ها تحت تأثیر قرار گرفته، به حال تعلیق درآمد.
در چنین شرایطی برگزاری بازار کتاب هنری به شکل حضوری امکان‌پذیر نبود. از این رو، تصمیم گرفتیم بازار امسال را به شکل کتابی که در آن هر شرکت‌کننده به ازای داشتن یک میز در بازار، یک برگ از آن را در اختیار دارد، عملی کنیم. طراحی صفحات به عهده‌ی شرکت‌کنندگان بوده و تغییری از طرف بازار در آن‌ها داده نشده است.
تعداد هفتاد شرکت‌کننده در این فراخوان شرکت کردند. مشارکت در این کتاب، همچون شرکت در بازار، برای همه آزاد بوده و هیچ انتخابی توسط برگزارکنندگان صورت نگرفته است.

In early 2020 we scheduled the 2nd edition of Bazar Art Book Fair for early July; The year everyone faced the global pandemic in one way or another, and all the uncertainty it brought with itself!
It soon became clear that the fair could not be held, at least physically. Therefore, we decided to arrange the 2020 Bazar in a different format. In this book/catalog, each participant has a double-sided sheet instead of the usual table in the fair. These pages and their layout was designed by the participants.
Seventy-one contributors have responded to our open call by sending us their printable material. There was no selection process and everyone was welcome to contribute to this book, as they would have been welcome to take part in a physical fair.

The second edition of FOCAL POINT art book fair will present printed matter by artists and publishers from the region and across the world. As part of the broader presentation, this year’s content will include a special focus on zines and comics.

Bergen Art Book Fair is an international art book and self-publishing festival. The fair showcases 50 local, national, and international artists and small press publishers.

Athens Art Book Fair is an artist-run initiative aiming to bring together and showcase artist publications produced in Greece as well as to create a link with publishing-based artistic practices (print, online and else) internationally.

برگزاری کارگاه دو روزه کتاب‌سازی در آموزشگاه بیاض. در این کارگاه هنرجویان ایده‌هایی را برای تهیه کتابی دست‌ساز از کارهای هنری خود می‌پرورانند، مشورت می‌گیرند و اجرا می‌کنند. این کارگاه به صورت عملی و در تاریخ شنبه ۹ شهریور و دوشنبه ۱۱ شهریور از ساعت ۱۰ الی ۱۳ برگزار می‌شود.

در اولین رویداد، این بازار قصد دارد آغازگر گفتگو و تعاملی دوستانه و پویا درباره‌ی کتاب هنری، در چهارچوبی حرفه‌ای باشد.
بازار کتاب هنری بن از تمامی هنرمندان، ناشرین مستقل، نهاد‌های هنری، خریداران کتاب، کیوریتورها و علاقه‌مندان دعوت می‌کند تا در تاریخ ۱۵ و ۱۶ شهریور ماه ۱۳۹۷ در فضای چندمنظوره‌ی بن‌گاه در کرشت، واقع درحومه شمال شرقی تهران به ما بپیوندند.

The importance of artistic and self-published material in today’s art world and the lack of an open and inclusive platform to distribute and exhibit such products in Iran was our main motivation to run Bon Art Book Fair.
At its first edition, the event provides a professional framework for a dynamic dialogue about art books.
Bon Art Book Fair welcomes artists, independent publishers, art institutions, curators, and other enthusiasts to join us on the 6th – 7th of September, 2018 at Bon-gah’s multifaceted space in Keresht, located in the northeastern suburb of Tehran.
